2023 Bob Carney Scholarship Recipient Announced

We are thrilled to announce the 2023 recipient of the Bob Carney Commitment to Community Scholarship – Natalie Warne!

The $2500 scholarship is awarded to a local high school senior who demonstrates academic excellence along with a strong commitment to the local community through service and volunteerism.

Natalie graduated from Southern Garrett High School and plans to attend Garrett College in the fall. She plans to continue her education at Frostburg State University with a goal of earning a Masters in Education.

Natalie has given back to the community in many ways. She founded and mentored a FIRST Lego League (FLL) Explore team for students with disabilities. Her team was comprised of 5-8 years old each with different intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Natalie taught them to build Lego models and code their projects. Under her direction, they created a Lego town that was fully accessible to everyone. Their project was shared with hundreds of people at an FLL Expo. The team presented their work, answered judging questions, and won the Gracious Professionalism Award.

Additionally, her volunteerism includes Deep Creek Lions Club Blind Skier and Camper Programs, Camp Caring, summer soccer team coaching, and the Southern Garrett High School unified track team. This forward-thinking young lady also spearheaded the development of the recycling program at SGHS.

About the Bob Carney Scholarship

The Bob Carney Commitment to Community Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Bob Carney. He was our longtime friend as well as our Broker and Sales Manager from 2016-2021. His efforts and leadership built a strong foundation for our real estate team and helped us grow to be one of the largest real estate firms in the area. He was passionate about his work with Taylor-Made along with his involvement with the community.

To honor is legacy, Taylor-Made owners Jay Ferguson, Betsy Holcomb, Chad Taylor, Jodi Refosco, and Joe Refosco established the scholarship. His friend, Pat Franc, also took part in the award’s development and helps select recipients. Sheila McCracken, General Manager of Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations, plays an integral part in the scholarship committee and the process of reviewing applicants.

We are proud to award this scholarship to Natalie for her exemplary involvement in the local community. She is sure to go far, and it is our pleasure to reward her efforts.
