Deep Creek Lake Spring Activities

Deep Creek Lake spring activities include many ways to enjoy the outdoors as the weather warms up. If Mother Nature isn’t cooperating, there are plenty of indoor options too. We put together a list highlighting some favorite things to do at Deep Creek Lake during the spring months.

It is a good idea to check the hours of operation before heading out. Some activities are only available on the weekend.

Recreation

State Park Activities
Garrett County is home to ten state parks. They have playgrounds, fishing, picnic areas, and miles of trails for hiking and biking. They are open daily throughout the year. If you are looking for a dog friendly activity, pet restrictions are relaxed during the spring months.

Popular State Parks Include:

Swallow Falls State Park – Hike to three stunning waterfalls.

Deep Creek Lake State Park – Fishing, 20 miles of hiking/biking trails, picnic tables, and three playgrounds.

Herrington Manor State Park – 12 miles of hiking/biking trails, picnic tables, and fishing. Closer to summer, kayak and canoe rentals are available.

New Germany State Park – 10 miles of hiking/biking trails, picnic tables, and fishing.

Check the schedule to see hours of operation for Escape Games and Mountain Park activities like the mountain coaster, disc golf, Chipmunk Challenge, archery, and the Spider Monkey Adventure.

Enjoy horseback riding on their trails, pony rides, or ATV tours.

Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center | 301-387-7067
Featuring hands-on nature exhibits, this is a one-of-a-kind facility that highlights the flora, fauna, and wildlife of Western Maryland. Open Friday-Sunday from 10AM-4PM, check their schedule for special programs led by park naturalists.

History

Garrett County Historical Society Museums | 301-334-3226
In Oakland, history buffs can learn about the area at the Garrett County Historical Museum (open Thursday-Saturday) and the Garrett County Museum of Transportation (call for hours of operation).
