Deep Creek Winter Activities for 2021

Deep Creek winter activities are in full swing! Mother Nature has delivered an incredible season for winter sports. As of this posting, Wisp Resort is reporting 84 inches of snowfall this season. Just because COVID-19 restrictions are in place, it doesn’t mean you can’t experience winter fun with friends and family. Outdoor recreation throughout all seasons is one of the best things about the Deep Creek Lake area.

We put together some favorite Deep Creek winter activities that folks are enjoying in 2021.

Deep Creek Winter Activities

Wisp Resort has limited capacity a bit due to COVID-19. However, there is still plenty of fun to be had on the slopes. They opened for the season in early December. Cold temps were just right for snowmaking, and we have gotten plenty of natural snow too. Wisp Resort has all of their 33 trails open right now. You can also check out Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park and the Mountain Coaster. Both offer plenty of thrills! For the most up-to-date information, check the Wisp Resort mountain resort. Pro Tip: Reducing capacity means that lift tickets and tubing park sessions can sell out – especially on weekends. Be sure to purchase them in advance online.

Not a skier? No problem! You can take a ride through our winter wonderland in a horse drawn sleigh. There are two companies that offer sleigh rides right now. You can bundle up and head out with Pleasant Valley Dream Rides or Circle R Ranch.

Sled riding is another activity that is easy for everyone. Herrington Manor State Park has a sledding hill right beside the park office. Bring your own sled. The only cost is the park entrance fee.

swallow falls state park

Take a winter hike at Swallow Falls State Park! This picturesque spot is magical with a fresh blanket of snow.  You can visit three waterfalls – Swallow Falls, Muddy Creek Falls, and Tolliver Falls.  A handicap accessible trail and viewing platform make it a little easier to check out Muddy Creek Falls.  Conditions can be very slippery so use caution. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots.

Cross country skiers are thrilled with the 2021 snowfall. There are miles of cross country ski trails at Herrington Manor State Park, and New Germany State Park.  Keep in mind, rental equipment is not available right now due to COVID-19 so bring your own gear. Normally, both parks can outfit you with skis, boots, and poles. Also, the Meshach Browning Trail System is great for cross country skiing. It was developed by the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club and is right next to the dog park near McHenry.
