Thousand Acres Golf Club recently held the grand opening for their back 9. It was an exciting day for the long-awaited expansion of the course, and the Taylor-Made team was thrilled to take part. The first nine-holes opened in 2010. Stunning scenery and challenging greens made it popular with area golfers. Completing the back nine was the culmination of years of planning and work with the goal of creating a true championship course.
“The good news is we are just getting started, we have a clubhouse to build, other club amenities to offer, and a golf course community to cultivate,” said Bob Raley, General Manager. “We are really excited about our future, we are signing up new members beyond our expectations, and the public has been asking for the completed 18-hole course, pretty much since the front nine opened in 2010. We are proud of what we have built, and we want everyone to come play, especially the residents of Garrett County. We have special pricing for county residents on Sunday afternoons.”
According to Raley, Thousand Acres will have a signature whole but they are unsure which one will claim that honor. Hole #11 is a beautiful, picturesque dog-leg left par 4 with a spectacular elevated view. Hole #17 which is an equally picturesque par 3 with an elevated view of one of the most demanding greens on the golf course. Both are worthy of being the signature hole. Time and the golfer feedback tell them which one it will be.
The golf club is semi-private, with memberships available, and is open to the public. Thousand Acres is also a lovely residential community that offers lakefront and lake access homes. Covering 1,200 acres, it is at Deep Creek Lake’s quieter southern end. New development is underway for homes with spectacular golf course views as well.
