Winter at Wisp Resort

Winter fun was Wisp Resort’s initial claim to fame. It was opened in 1955 by Helmuth “Ace” Heise. The opening season featured a one-room lodge and a rope tow serving just one slope.

Today, Wisp boasts thirty-three slopes totaling eleven miles of trails on 137 acres with a vertical drop of 700 feet. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing is available at Bear Claw Snow Tubing park with twelve, 750 foot chutes. 

The Mountain Coaster provides year-round thrills with a 1,300-foot uphill track that then descends 3,500 feet downhill over 350 vertical feet.

Golf Courses at Wisp Resort

When spring arrives, Wisp Resort features two exceptional golf courses. Fantasy Valley and Lodestone Golf Course.  

  • Fantasy Valley is at the base of the mountain and was named one of the “100 Must-Play Courses of the Mid-Atlantic” ​​by Golfstyles Magazine. It is a 6,446 yard, par 70 championship course with stunning mountain views. Communities in this area include Fantasy Valley and Greens at Wisp.
  • Lodestone Golf Course is the #2 Ranked Public Golf Course in Maryland by GolfWeek Magazine. Shaped by 3-time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin, Lodestone offers players sweeping lake and mountain views. Greenbrier, Biltmore at Lodestone, and Sandy Shores Heights are communities that surround the course.

Throughout the warmer months, Wisp Resort is home to numerous activities. Aerial adventures are available for all ages. They include the Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour, Chipmunk Challenge, and Spider Monkey Adventure. Other experiences include disc golf, archery, and scenic chairlift rides. Wisp Resort also operates the world’s only mountaintop recirculating white water rafting course.
